(333 words) I. Turgenev masterfully described nature in his works. And although it is usually noted that the writer praised the beauty of his native land, in the story "Asya" the reader sees landscapes of Germany, where the main plot takes place.
The main character, Mr. N. N., by his own admission, does not know how to admire the world around him, but he regularly observes many details around him, whether it be the moon, clear skies, soothing light. At the beginning of the story landscapes fill the hero with light, romantic thoughts.
Then the reader opens up a beautiful mountain landscape with small cozy houses and their tiled roofs, where Gagin and Asya live. A smart girl loves to climb steep paths and roam the ruins of an old tower. This speaks of Asya’s courage, her briskness and thirst for adventure. The heroine, unlike Mr. N. N., feels nature and its beauty. Once she told him that he rode into a moon pillar and broke it. Then he noticed it.
Among the branches of a gigantic ash tree near the river was a statue of the sad Madonna, whose heart was pierced. The main character loved visiting this place. He recalled the legend that a young girl threw herself from a cliff because of unrequited love. Unfortunately, Mr. N. N., thinking about other people's tragedies, could not foresee and correct his own.
The “regal” River Rhine becomes a kind of symbol - it separates the lovers who are on opposite sides of it. Asya herself was like a river - "not a single moment sat quietly." Her character was as changeable as nature. It is noteworthy that almost always the main character notices landscapes when he sees Asya. Mr. N. N. seemed to describe Asi's behavior: "... evening, first all fiery, then clear and scarlet, then pale and vague." The heroine appeared in front of him in different images: either modest, sometimes brisk, then shy, then active. But when N. talks to Gagin, he seems to notice nothing, because the girl is not nearby.
Turgenev's psychology largely consists of "landscapes of the soul", because the writer introduces nature to create an atmosphere and better reflect the feelings and characters of the heroes. Due to the fact that he himself subtly felt it, it does not become a simple background for the scene of action, but acquires a symbolic, emotional meaning, important for understanding.
