We also recommend using analysis of the “Hero of our time” or ready recall about him.
(691 words) The narrator is an officer who traveled around the Caucasus. The man met the elderly headquarters captain Maxim Maksimych. I learned from him about the young officer Grigory Pechorin, who was under his command. This man was exiled to the Caucasus because he stole the younger daughter of a mountain prince, whom he liked, by the name of Bel. The girl’s brother offered to give her to Kazbich in exchange for a horse, but he refused. Then Gregory invited the young man to bring his sister, and he himself promised to steal the horse for him from the man. Kazbich was angry, left without a girl and without a horse. At first, the goryanka was wild, but later fell in love with Gregory. After some time, offended Kazbich stole it from him. The man realized that he could not escape the chase, so he threw Bela, hopelessly wounding. Pechorin experienced her death, but did not mention her anymore. Because of this incident, he was sent to another part, and he met with Maksimych only five years later.
Then the narrator met again with the captain. This time at the hotel, where Pechorin was at that time. Maksimych hoped to talk with Gregory, but he limited himself to a few cold phrases and left, allowing the old friend to dispose of his journal as he pleased. The headquarters captain gave it to the narrator. Later, Gregory died. Learning about this, the narrator was delighted, because now he could publish his notes along with his own.
In the journal Pechorin it is written about how he, as a result of his service, turned out to be a passage to Taman. The officer lived in a house with a deaf old woman and a blind boy. Gregory noticed that the child went to the sea at night and met there with a stranger. The two of them waited for the man who brought some kind of cargo on the boat, and helped him lower the luggage to the shore. The next day, the officer decided to get acquainted with the girl and learn about the night campaign, but, not receiving an answer, threatened to reveal their smuggling. The girl invited him out on a boat. At sea, she tried to throw the officer overboard, but through the efforts of a young man, she found herself there. Pechorin later saw how this undine left Taman with that man, leaving a blind boy. Gregory regretted disturbing them.
Also in the notes of Pechorin it is said about how he arrived in Pyatigorsk and crossed with an old friend Grushnitsky, who did not rise above the cadet. It turned out that the acquaintance was fascinated by Princess Mary Ligovskaya. With nothing to do, Pechorin decided to win her heart. Also, the young man met Vera, with whom he was once in a romantic relationship, and renewed his old relationship. However, the woman was married, therefore, advised Gregory to show signs of attention to Mary, so as not to arouse suspicion. The girl fell in love. Grushnitsky became angry and decided to set up a friend. When Gregory was returning from Vera and was at the window level of Mary, the junker and his comrades “mistaking” him for a thief, drew the attention of the people to him. The next day, Grushnitsky spread false information that Pechorin was at Mary’s night. Gregory challenged him to a duel, found out that the enemy decided to joke and not load his gun, uncovered a hoax and shot the cadet. The murder was blamed on the Circassians. Vera, learning about the shootout, was frightened and told her husband out of excitement that she loved Gregory. The husband became angry and took away from the city. After reading a note from a woman in which she explained her feelings, Gregory realized that she was the only person he needed. He jumped on his horse, tried to catch up, but could not. His horse fell from overstrain and died.
Information about the duel still reached the authorities. The mother of the princess thanked Gregory for defending the honor of his daughter, and invited him to become the husband of the girl. Pechorin spoke with Mary. He said that he mocked her, and she had the right to despise him. Mary replied that she hated the officer, and he left. After that, Gregory went to the fortress in the Caucasus, where he was transferred for a duel.
Once Pechorin played cards with officers in a Cossack settlement. They started a dispute whether there is a predestination. Wulich claimed that if he was no longer allowed to die from above, this would not happen. As proof, he tried to shoot himself in the head, but the gun did not work, but then the officer pulled the trigger, pointing the weapon to the side, and the bullet flew out. Everyone was surprised, including Pechorin. He clearly saw the seal of death on Vulich's face. In the morning, Gregory was informed that the drunk Cossack had killed that officer. Pechorin also decided to check his fate and went to catch the attacker. He climbed into the killer’s house, but the bullet did not hit him. Then the Cossack was connected by other officers. Pechorin told the captain about this, and he admitted that pistols often misfire. Both did not want to become fatalists.
