Lizards discuss that in a magical hill they are preparing for the meeting of noble guests. When the hill opened, an old forest fairy emerged from it, who wore an amber heart on her forehead. She asked the kozodoy to spread the invitations: to a big ball — everyone, even people, if they talk in a dream or do something else “in our part”, but only to know at the banquet, because they were expecting an old Norwegian troll with sons, for whom it was supposed to give out two daughters of the forest king, and who were "not well brought up." Arriving at the ball, the sons immediately showed their "good manners": the rude people put their feet on the table, took off their boots and handed them to the ladies to hold.
After the dances the bridegroom began: the youngest daughter, putting a sliver in her mouth, became invisible, but the troll did not want such a wife to himself or to his sons; the second was able to walk next to her, as if her own shadow; the third cooked well; the fourth playing the harp forced her to do what she wanted ... Then the sons got bored and left. The fifth one learned to love everything Norwegian, the sixth refused to appear, and the seventh knew how to tell fairy tales - the Dovrefjell troll himself married her.
Meanwhile, the sons extinguished the wandering lights, preparing for the solemn procession, and refused to marry - they liked to have fun more. After the cry of a rooster, the hill closed; the lizards again crawled along the tree and discussed the ball with the worm (they liked the troll, he, the blind poor man, sons).
