Chapter 1
Eugene Onegin was born in St. Petersburg, the son of wealthy parents, he is neat and well-mannered. Eugene’s “second language” is French, many ladies sigh on it, he is invited to all receptions and balls.
Onegin is already bored with secular society, and he is going abroad, however, his father is dying and the whole inheritance goes to numerous debts. Soon the hero receives one more bad news - his uncle is dying and wants to say goodbye to his nephew personally. Arriving in the village, Eugene does not find a relative alive, however, he leaves him a huge inheritance.
Chapter 2
Onegin settles in the village, tries to avoid communication with others and neighbors in every possible way, but still makes a new acquaintance to the young poet Vladimir Lensky, who recently returned from Germany. Romantic Vladimir, the complete antipode of Onegin.
The following is a detailed description of the Larin family. In the work, author Olga is a chatty and energetic girl, Lensky's lover. Tatyana is silent, shy and prefers to spend time alone.
Chapter 3
Lensky invites Onegin to the Larins' house, where his bride Olga lives, Eugene is curious to see the girl, and he agrees. Returning home, the hero admits that he was comfortable in this society, and of the two sisters he was more interested in the silent Tanya.
The visit of young men to the Larins' house generates rumors about the engagement of Tatyana and Eugene. The girl, being impressed by French novels, realizes that she is in love with Eugene. In a quiet moonlit night, she composes a love letter, where she confesses her love in French and insists that she gives her soul into the hands of Onegin. Tatiana spends the long two days in agony, waiting for an answer, the next Eugene visits the Larin’s house.
Chapter 4
Onegin speaks with Tatyana and tells her that despite the fact that he is touched by her sincerity, they cannot be together. The hero also points out to her a too violent expression of feelings and asks the next time to be more restrained.
Chapter 5
Tatyana decides to tell fortunes. Under the pillow, the girl puts a mirror, but instead of the narrowed one, she sees in a dream how Onegin kills his sister's groom.
Guests are gathering on Tatyana’s birthday, and disgruntled Eugene arrives, who succumbed to Lensky’s persuasion. The hero is bored to have fun and annoy his friend, he begins to show sympathy for Lensky's bride, Olga, a furious bridegroom leaves the Larins' house.
Chapter 6
After the departure of Lensky, Onegin leaves Olga alone. In the morning, neighbor Zaretsky tells Eugene that a friend challenges him to a duel. The hero repents of his behavior, but he has no choice but to accept the challenge. Lensky meets his bride and speaks with her, a duel for him is a matter of honor.
In a duel, Onegin severely wounds Lensky, he soon dies. Onegin goes to travel.
Chapter 7
Olga soon completely forgets her fiance and jumps out to marry an officer. Tatyana constantly visits Onegin’s former home, reads his books, gradually realizing that she may have fallen in love with the invented image. Larina misses Eugene, does not look at anyone.
As a result, Tatyana’s mother does not stand up and takes her daughter to Moscow, where the general falls in love with her.
Chapter 8
Having returned from a long trip, Eugene arrives at the reception and meets the very Tatyana Larina there. However, he does not recognize the girl, she has changed a lot, she has been married for 2 years. Admiring the stranger, Onegin observes that her features are familiar to him, he understands that this is the very Tatyana, he is overcome by a feeling of love, but Larina is no longer subject to him. The hero writes a letter to her, then one more and another. But Tatyana ignores all his letters.
In a fit of despair, Onegin arrives at Tatyana’s house. The girl greets him with reproaches, and reports that despite the fact that she still loves, he has already been given to another and will be faithful to him.
